Emily Wells’ debut memoir, A Matter of Appearance, binds the author’s account of autoimmune disease to 19th-century French hysteria and discursive histories of ballet and illness. It has received praise from The New Yorker, The New Republic, The Los Angeles Review of Books, Literary Hub, and others. Emily has an MFA in fiction from UC Riverside and teaches writing at UC Irvine. Formerly, she has been an editor of fashion and art magazines and a newspaper reporter. She lives in Los Angeles.
